Basilica

Golden dusk enters as the massive doors swing open

A single ray drifts down upon a painted statue at the entrance

A small boy and his lamb

A teardrop trying to escape down his face

Forlorn looks on all the idols big and small

They could use a dusting

Particles of their cloaks float through the space leading me to the center aisle

I gaze upward to see the largest figure of them all

Christ, screaming

Christ staked to timber

Christ bleeding

Christ welcoming or pushing away

Fearful, frantic, yet calm

Spirit

The doors close

The padlock is set with a push

I am at my place of reckoning

Willing to learn

But more importantly, willing to listen
