Paint Chips

Photo by Skylar Kang on Pexels.com

Like leafy, old paint chips clinging to a curved church ceiling,

Relationships linger at a distance and up close

Sever, smooth, and touch up—or leave it hanging, unkempt and unnoticed?

Should the real lens be focused on what lies underneath?

What scar or wound is the beige matte covering?

What do you call that original colour?

Should it be left alone, or does air’s oxygen breathe new life

Into a sensitive, exposed gash?

Blow

Blow on it

It hurts
