Fat

Slice around belly, match your line

Gently twist and pull apart

Hold the pitted half with intent

Strike the pingpong ball, teak colored seed dead center with knife blade

Don’t miss, your palm will not enjoy a cut

Twenty percent of the time, the pit will come out wedged onto the blade

If the fruit is under ripe, it will not

Prise the meat away from the dark dimpled skin with the side of a tablespoon

Notice the color, like white paint added to Kelly green

Not the hue of 1978 countertops as its name suggests

The two halves are now ready for slicing, mashing, consuming

Bon appetite
