And Now

So unthinkingly

I squashed the spider

In the hallway

As though she were an interloper.

Usually, I grab with a tissue

And then release it, saying out loud,

“Go with life little one!”

It was a momentary lapse

Of consciousness.

And now I have lost my venerability.
